Sirius is the brightest star besides Sol as seen from the Solar System, and also one of the youngest of the Sun's neighbors, only 8.6 light-years away. It has a white dwarf companion, called Sirius B or the Pup.

In Solar Storms, the Sirian system is nearly dead, possessing merely a few passing rocks, and nothing that anyone could hope to terraform into a world in any reasonable timeframe. Even still, there is a great deal of raw material present, and plans for the construction of stellar gates are already being carried out.
