Perhaps the most powerful weapon available to humankind, the tachyon cannon is a satmet capable of causing a specific tachyon interference along a line of effect. Normally, this is the inversion of charge, causing a significant quantity of matter in a localized region of space to become antimatter.

The mobius patterns are defense against this effect, and hadronium is somewhat resistant. Regalia are, of course, unaffected, as are delta-grade beings such as astrum parvulus.

Only three such devices have ever been constructed without the use of hypomatter. All of these were constructed within the Solar System using an immense quantity of patterns. In order of construction, these were Ouranos Prime, the Ares Cannon, and Dalsat. Of these, only the first two were originally intended as a weapon and only the Ares device had that as its primary purpose.

They were strategic limiters during the Contact War and the Battle of Sol, as only Adam's Ark was proof against it. Dalsat and the Ares Cannon were both destroyed by the Ark before it was captured, but even Ouranos Prime on its own was a powerful force against the 'mundane' vessels of the Solarian Purge.

Enough class B patterns are scattered about the Milky Way that it should be possible to construct one or more non-regalic devices. Some have considered this to place such a cannon at A-star in the event of a Virgon invasion, but this is widely considered to be a waste.
