The tlorai are an ancient race, now presumed long dead, though it is almost certain that they originated within the Milky Way. If true, they would likely be the first sapient spacefaring race within the galaxy. Currently, the only memory of their passing is the Centaurus Relic, an ancient device millions of years old.

The Centaurus Relic, and analysis of their home region, suggests that they actually fired off the probe, and perhaps thousands or millions of others, across the galaxy in the hope that they might be remembered after their home star system was disrupted by a black hole.
