Patterns are a manifestation of an alternate existence upon our Universe. They are not even home to our Multiverse, but rather, a completely separate existence, with a completely alien nature. They don't necessarily obey any physical law of our Universe, but they do have their own laws.

While almost all known patterns are of the mobius variety - indeed, many think that is the extent of them - infusions, like wraiths and those symbiants that make the triates, hold more variety to them. They are exceedingly rare - Halacia is in direct control of nearly all of their pattern sources - but their capabilities are becoming wider known with each passing month.

Instead of bonding to a substance, an infusion bonds to a soul. Although the processes they work by are at least vaguely understood, if not fully comprehended, they are still likened to magic. Their effects are simple, but potent.

Triates may not accept infusions at all. The infested may only accept infusions that they are -NOT- associated with. Instead, the infested are able to manifest any and all infusions of their own type (corrupted have access to all mobius infusions, wracked have access to all spectral infusions, possessed have access to all ethereal infusions). Despite having access to one-third of all infusions, they still have many of the same limitations chimerae, beta strains and androids do when using them in practice.
