Backgrounds

Backgrounds are those things that do not represent the naked, personal power of your character. They are allies, possessions, things that can be taken away, representations of their past and the like. They do not add dice to rolls in most cases, though it can happen.

Backgrounds are not purchased with experience. Instead, GMs assign a number of background points (bps) at character creation, and will sometimes set specific minimums. Alternatively, backgrounds can be combined from the basic ones shown here, to encourage specific levels of resources.

There are five kinds of backgrounds.

• Leadership Backgrounds - Leadership backgrounds imply followers, retainers and henchmen. People under your control and such

• Property Backgrounds - Land, manses, artifacts and resources.

• Social Backgrounds - Friends!

• Starting Backgrounds - Backgrounds that the GM assigns for specific effects or power levels in play.

• Supernatural Backgrounds - Wacky stuff that doesn't fit elsewhere
