Awakened (Ownage)

The exact definition of what makes a person Awakened is hard to settle upon. Most are capable of what can hardly be called anything but 'magic', but some lack that ability; many, but not all, are much stronger than should be physically possible for them.

The definition which has come closest to fully encompassing them was one provided by the Awakened themselves: certain people have souls which shine brighter than the rest. Beyond the inability for anyone but Awakened--and not even all of them--to detect this 'shine', even it is not infalliable; though their numbers are very few, some mundane humans possess brightened souls as well.

Awakening manifests in a variety of ways, varying greatly from one individual to another.

The only definititive way to determine if a person is Awakened is whether or not they possess the Arbiter Gene. Awakening manifests differently in various individuals, and while all Awakened have bright souls, so do a relatively few ordinary people.

Awakening manifests differently in almost every individual, typically in ways that are somehow 'fitting' to the person in question. Although they do not seem to be capable of actually determining how their powers manifest, it's been suggested that they may subconsciously guide the development of their abilities.
