The Great Martian Ring is fully linked at the start of this year, and the Terran Ring follows months afterwards. Planetary screens finally encircle both planets, and terrorist attacks turn to sabotage attempts on the rings themselves, which prove to be less successful.

The first sustained tachyon transmission took place during this year. Previous experiments had proven its faster-than-light nature, but this was the first, actual information-containing message. It only was able to transmit several bytes of data, however, given the immense power requirements for the transmission.
