Solar Expansion

Stars that are not red dwarfs are capable of fusing helium, which causes them to swell as they age, growing larger and hotter. This bodes poorly for the habitable zones around stars, as it means that they move outwards during their lifetime. Even Earth's days are quite numbered without human intervention, and any star significantly larger than the Sun simply will not give a planet enough time to spawn intelligent life.
