Sometimes called an island Universe. With the current understanding of existence, it's not entirely inaccurate.

The Milky Way galaxy is the dominant member of the Local Group of galaxies, of which Andromeda and Triangulum are the only other significant members. The next largest galaxy in the group, the Large Magellanic Cloud, is usually called Albacre, after Al Bakr (The White Ox) as described in Abd Al-Rahman Al Sufi's Book of Fixed Stars.

As Albacre, the Small Magellanic Cloud, and many other dwarf galaxies lie within the halo of the Silver River, mobius patterns can still sustain themselves in such regions. Outside of this colossal halo, only the Regalia function. Colonies outside of this region feature mostly those races capable of easily accessing such - humans, primii, renlai, the concord, the virgon, and even the shadow. A number of indigenous races that avoided consumption by the Swarm are also present, a few of them technologically capable of holding their own.

Humanity usually considers twelve major galaxies to be their 'base'.

  • Milky Way - A rather familiar place.
  • Andromeda - M31 is the nearest giant galaxy, exceeding the Milky Way in size and rivaling her in mass.
  • Sculptor - NGC 253 - the Sculptor Galaxy, is another giant. It has its own group of galaxies.
  • Bodes - M81, or Bode's Galaxy, another giant.
  • Chiron - NGC 5128 or Centaurus A, one of the closest active galaxies, bound with Pholus and Spinwheel.
  • Pholus - NGC 4945
  • Triangulum - The only other major member of the Local Group, it is dwarfed by the two giants of the system.
  • Camelo - NGC 2403
  • Draco - NGC 4236
  • Venatici - NGC 4244
  • Spinwheel - M83, or the Southern Pinwheel.
  • Canes - M94
