Earth still holds nearly the entire host of [[human]]ity, with a total population holding steady at over fourteen billion. Nearly all of it is concentrated in massive [[arcologies]], some more livable than others, leaving the rest of the world for tourism and wilderness, and those parts of [[human]]ity that have rejected technology.

The most visible notion that Earth is not what it once was is the [[Clarke Ring]] - a great white band that stretches from horizon to horizon, visible even during the day, from nearly anywhere on [[Earth]]. [[Earth]] is surrounded by several rings of other satellites and stations. All of them perform weather monitoring, and most of them serve as solar power generators for the [[arcologies]] below. [[Human]]ity is not trapped - at least, not the majority of it. There is a large illicit trade involved in 'underground' construction, though this is becoming rarer as enforcement activities increase. A few people opt to cast civilization aside and join one of the 'human zoos' - or at least help police them. Underground networks and experimentation is rampant, of all kinds and at all levels.

[[Human]] settlements outside of the arcologies are actively prevented from developing bronze-age or agricultural technology. Most are actively hostile towards technology, a phenomenon ecouraged by the voluntary 'policing' of those who wish to leave the [[arcologies]]. Interbreeding is beginning to weed out the root strain of humans, however, a practice which concerns many. [[Angel]]s and [[wraith]]s are beginning to gather tribes of followers, some for less noble ends than others.

Until the Purge in the 23rd century, Earth was the home of the overwhelmingly vast majority of humanity. The entire rest of mankind's territory could not account for a billion souls, while Gaea herself was pushing fifteen, and was still growing - if slowly. It was possible to walk from one end of the world to another through the massive arcology system, never setting a foot outside, yet, if one was fast enough, they would always cast a shadow from the Sun. Not quite an ecumenopolis, vast expanses were still reserved for agriculture and otherwise left to the wilderness.

Many great works were built on Earth. In addition to the arcology network, another great construction of the 22nd century was the Yevatron, a massive device encircling much of the Pacific. The Terran Ring, called the Scar of the Sky by exiles and others, so overwhelmed alien visitors that they feared to assault the bastion of humanity, perhaps delaying the Purge by a decade due solely to the nascent civilization's raw industrial focus, requiring the First to intervene directly.

During the Battle of Sol itself, Adam's Ark ripped a skearn into existence surrounding the world, a pair of mirror worlds called Gaea. It was not thoroughly explored before the Diaspora, so little is known about it.

Moved by Eve along with Sol, the current status of Earth is unknown. The exiles were not slain after the Purge, being considered harmless by most of the assailants. Instead, the system was fortified against all manner of intrusion after humanity fled, and after the parent star vanished, it is rumored to be lost forever. After a millennia of searching, the diasporic remnants of humanity have yet to find their homeworld, leaving some to believe it destroyed, though most refuse to give up hope.

For her part, Eve never discusses the matter, and if anyone has the ability to make her talk, they have not done so.

A pair of gravity-tug asteroids, called Higg's Asteroids, were launched into Earth-crossing orbits just a few years before the War. These planetoids were equipped with thrusters to avoid collision, but it they were not designed to remain unattended for centuries. Still, even with the invasion of the planet proper, most things remaining on Earth were built to last for thousands of years, although no doubt nature has thoroughly infested the arcology structure.
