In the 21st century, two polar stations - the northern Armstrong Station and the southern Aldrin Station - were established, named after the first two men on the Moon. They were located at the poles to help mitigate the massive temperature variations they would otherwise suffer, make use of constantly available solar power, and to access water ice in the polar craters. Breathing assistance was common - even after an atmosphere was established, and radiation protection was the norm even for homo supernus models, as vicious sunburns can occur after only minutes of unprotected exposure. In addition, people generally kept their outside activities fairly close to the day/night divider, as it gets both very hot during the day and very cold at night.

As these grew and developed, Luna was slowly given a meaningful oxygen atmosphere, which persisted at least until the Purge. Thus, it had a cloudless blue sky, and a vast, white desert of titanium dioxide and other dusts. The extremely slow rotation generated very little wind, and being tidally locked with Earth kept such things constant.

The moon's weak gravity prevents walking, except very slowly. Both bases had 'g treads' and other forms of gravity manipulation, used to artificially raise gravity to Earth or Martian levels in some areas.

The Terran Ring was visible from the moon, though thinly.
