Since the rise of [[Ouranos Prime]], the Martian Government has created its own contests to draw interest away from the refugees. The most popular of these is the Tripod Contest, where teams make tripods in the vein of H.G. Wells' 'War of the Worlds'. Subject to certain limits (such as no wheels allowed), some of them actually come quite close, or even exceed, the abilities of those visualized in the various movies and other depictions of them.
