Perhaps it's born from the simple facts of desire itself, or, perhaps, it comes from the alien nature of the wraith in the first place, but the infested are not named lightly. Frequently malevolent, they either seek nothing but their own personal gain, or wanton, if highly planned, destruction. Formed from the fusion with a sapient organism - preferably untainted with synthetic alterations, they are capable of mimicking many lower-order cerevate powers in their sphere.

If an infested dies, its wraith can escape fairly quickly - it requires a potent hunt to isolate and exterminate one. In addition, if it possesses a new host within minutes of the death of the previous, it retains much more of its will and memories, effectively replacing those of its new host, though a few quirks may remain. They may only possess willing hosts - assuming sapience, and as such are widely known for their trickery.

Even before the Consortium-Prime War, they were a tolerated group, not drawing anywhere near the ire the triates had. This is largely in part due to their relative impotence - they weren't a 'real threat' to anyone in a significant place of power, and most civilians were quite capable of handling them with assistance.

Since the Diaspora, those that remain have a more marked tendency to behave, bearing their rage silently and thankful that they are not worked into come grand cerevate design for another Regalia.

Those infested by shades are called corrupted. Those of spectres are called wracked. Those of ghosts are possessed. Those of imps are fiends. Shard-born are called homunculi.

In addition to being able accept infusions, they can mimic and utilize their specific strain of with a great deal of fluidity, showing a wider, more reliable configuration of abilities than others save for the cerevates themselves. Possessed mimic ethereal infusions, wracked mimic spectrals, corrupted mobius infusions, homunculi mimic fragments, and fiends mimic gremlins, usually with better results.
