What follows is a collection of overviews covering the setting of Solar Storms.
Timeline
A history of the previous two centuries of humanity:
- The 21st century saw artificial sapience, the discovery of the soul, immortality, the Prometheus Accords, the advent of fusion, and the Great Exile are the highlights of this period, though it is also notable for the near-brush with World War III.
- The 22nd century saw the terraforming and colonization of Mars, inexpensive Earth-to-orbit propulsion, the colonization and development of the Moon, the discovery tachyons and of primitive life around Alpha Centauri and the subsequent launch of the Centaurus Mission, and the Martian Conflict overthrowing the governments of Earth to give rise to the Solar Consortium.
- Though nascent, the 23rd century has seen the discovery of the mobius patterns, the appearance of angels, pyrrhans, and striatvari, as well as wraiths and the infested. Humans complete the first true megastructures, Ouranos Prime, the Clark Ring and the Martian Ring, during the first decade.
Developments
Kind of the 'miscellanious' setting section, mostly linking to specific important discoveries that don't fit elsewhere, and ones that do that deserve to stand out. These have shaped the Solar System over the past two centuries. Some key ones are:
- Immortality and the Prometheus Accords
- The discovery of the soul
- The mobius patterns
- The terraforming of Earth and Mars
- The Great Rings - the Clarke Ring and the Martian Ring
- The adoption of the Solar Calendar
- Miscellanious points, such as solipsism syndrome, Rare Earth, and the suicide problem
